Far from your typical “strip show,” Burlesque Hall of Fame Weekend is where the old meets new; where wide-eyed enthusiasts and aspiring starlets can bump and grind beside surviving superstars who made their names during burlesque’s mid-20th century heyday.

“While burlesque festivals and events continue to pop up in major cities throughout the U.S. and around the world, Burlesque Hall of Fame Weekend remains the original in a class by itself,” says international burlesque superstar Dita von Teese, a Member of the BHOF Board of Directors and the 2011 Weekend’s Honorary Chairperson. “Performers and fans alike flock to it not just to win prizes or see and be seen at the world’s premier burlesque showcase, but to participate in a 50+ year tradition of celebrating the art and heart of classic striptease.”

Among the Weekend’s scheduled participants include: Kitten Natividad (Airplane!, Beneath the Valley of the Ultra-Vixens); Haji (Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill!); Lottie “The Body” Graves (Standing in the Shadows of Motown); San Francisco’s Grant Avenue Follies; past “Miss Exotic World, Reigning Queen of Burlesque” titleholders Catherine D’Lish, Seattle/US (1992 & 1993), Kitten DeVille, Los Angeles/US  (2002); Erochica Bamboo, Tokyo/Japan (2003); Dirty Martini, NYC/US (2004), Michelle L’amour, Chicago/US (2005), Julie Atlas Muz, NYC/US  & London/UK(2006), Kalani Kokonuts, Las Vegas/US (2009), Roxi D’Lite, Ontario/Canada (2010) and the 2011 Legend of Burlesque Award-winner, 92 year old Barbara Yung.

“We are thrilled to present such a diverse, dynamic lineup of world-class burlesque acts and special events,” says Laura Herbert, Executive Director of the Burlesque Hall of Fame. “BHOF Weekend is more than just a fundraiser; it’s the burlesque lovers’ family reunion—a living, breathing, tassel-twirling tradition, connecting modern-day performers and enthusiasts with the generations that preceded them.”

Among the Weekend’s highlights include nightly performances, such as Thursday’s Movers, Shakers & Innovators showcase, featuring neo-BQ superstars and cutting-edge up-and-comers; Friday’s 54th Annual Burlesque Reunion showcase, an evening of vintage-style striptease as performed by 25+ classic stars of the 1940s-1970s; Saturday’s 21st Annual Tournament of Tease (formerly the “Miss Exotic World Pageant”), in which the world’s top neo-burlesque entertainers compete for the most coveted titles in modern day bump & grind; and Sunday night’s Superstar Closing Gala, featuring an all-star lineup of BHOF Weekend titleholders past and present, including the first-ever Sassy Lassy Award-winners for “outstanding contribution to the art of Burlesque”: neo-burlesque pioneers Billie Madley (Cinema); Michelle Carr (The Velvet Hammer Burlesque); and Alison Fensterstock, Baby Doe Von Stroheim and Debbie Mink (co-creators, Tease-O-Rama).

Of course, there’s more to BHOF Weekend than a non-stop parade of pulchritude. In addition to the nightly showcases, there will be premieres and “sneak previews” of the following films, attended by the filmmakers and/or cast: “Tournée” (Winner, Best Director at Cannes Film Festival 2010). “Exotic World & the Burlesque Revival,” “Burlesque Assassins,” and “Tura! The Tura Satana Documentary.” Other featured events include:  nightly After Parties with DJs Howie Pyro (Los Angeles), Mr. Momotaro (NYC),  Notorious M-I-G (San Francisco), Switched-On Audrey (Los Angeles), and Scott Ewalt (NYC); special BHOF Weekend-editions of Naked Girls Reading and Dr. Sketchy’s Anti-Art School; a Downtown Vegas Pinup Photo Safari; “Texas Tease’Em” Poker Tournament; BHOF Finishing School Master Classes taught by April March, Joan Arline, Marinka, Tiffany Carter and Big Fannie Annie; Legends of Burlesque Q&A and Autograph Signing; and a weekend-long Burlesque Bazaar.
